Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
Really like Said Benrahma. Think he showed some great touches and just needs games. That’s my opinion.

But I’m not sure Moyes fancies him at all.

Noble, Yarm, Lanzini now appear ahead in the pecking order. Can’t get off the bench against Brighton.

Questions
Are we contracted to buy him?
Is he any good?
Does he have a future under Moyes?

I think his attitude looks spot on so far, and it's looking promising.. I don't believe for a minute he was a Moyes signing, but credit to both for adapting, that's what good bods do.

I am still making my mind up, he clearly has some good skills and works but a bit lightweight and as others have said ( especially Moyes) his decision making needs to improve. He will need more games in the Prem for that to happen. Not as good as Eze that's for sure.

His worst attribute for me though is the wearing of gloves when it ain't that cold - sorry pet hate. Always think it means they aren't going to run around enough.

Seen plenty to say he can play at this level but still has a long way to go. He’s barely played. If you compare his performances to Fornals it’s laughable that Moyes openly criticises him for giving the ball away when he picks Fornals who gives it away much more and seems to offer very little other than hard work

I think we have got a player in the Christian Daily type mould.

Will work hard, not stop, try his best but at the end of the day just not good enough for the quality we are after.

one of those players that is great at a set level but the next jump up is too much for them.

Hope i am proved wrong.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
One thing that has impressed me is that is does really seem to want to work for the team. He does track players, he does hold formation when in defence, far more than I expected. That is something Moyes will require of him.

He is a player that will try to do the sublime, sadly it will not always come off. Had some lovely touches vrs Everton, the chip pass to set up Antonio for example.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
I was hoping for more from him, but he might need some time. Looked really good in one game (Leeds?) but has been pretty anonymous in most. Not that Moyes has thrown him on at the right times. I still think he might come good.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
I did see Fatty hooked him at half time at the weekend for WBA.

But all Diangana would have been is a squad player for us similar to what Benrahma is for us now. He's been here half a season, and the weekend was the first game he's done 90 mins for us.

I don't know how anyone can say its been a successful transfer for us yet. I'm hoping he will be as he's definitely a bums off seats player.

Yeah that's fair. Diangana looks a fucking shambles though, he ain't doing anything useful at Brom.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
I expect him not to give the ball away pretty much every time he has it?

I'm not denying there is "a player" with him. Not sure we'll ever see the ball enough for him to make an impression with it though, considering the way play. Diangana runs at players with pace, which is much better if we're a counter attacking team.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
Not sure what you can expect from the bloke with a static turkey up top like the appalling Haller.

However if you can't see from the glimpses we've had of him that he's a better player than Diangana then there's no hope for you.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
I still need to be convinced with him also.

There's nothing I've seen so far that replacing Diangana with him has been the right thing to do, with limited transfer funds and having at least 2 positions (striker and LWB) where we're crying out for reinforcements.

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
i think he's been very predictable so far to be fair. You can predict that he will invariably take the most difficult option, and almost invariably its the wrong one.

No problem at all with his workrate, and he's clearly very talented, but his decision making is atrocious. Maybe trying too hard to make an impact to be fair to him, and it's something he can be coached to improve, so there's a good chance he can be a success here, but he's not done enough to warrant regular start. yet.

I like him. He is decent. But he is adapting and it just shows you the step up from Championship to PL.

He is exciting and unpredictable. defenders hate that.

Assuming we keep him, he signs and we pay the 30 mill...

I think he will be asked to bulk up in the gym and put 3/4kgs on to develop his strength

I think he would then turn into a more dynamic and better version of a Shaqiri / Diamanti type player who also tracks back

I think we persevere

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
This thread was started because he did not appear on the pitch against Brighton.

Do I think he has done much in the two hours Of football he has had since to warrant people demanding him to play and call for the managers head? No.

He was better against Everton but still got pushed off the ball easily. Should had scored against Southampton too.

Still undecided what way he will go.

His attributes are pretty much what Anderson has. Skilful, quick feet etc.

He does work hard off the ball though which Anderson did not do for us last season.

Here’s to hoping he will improve in time but really does need to get down the gym.

Still think our best 3 attacking players behind the striker would be

Antonio Lanzini Bowen

Would of course need a striker better than Haller so that Antonio can go back to being a wide attacking player.

Would I be disgruntled at seeing Benrahma back on the bench for our next premier league game? Not at all.

Completely useless stat on Benrahma, despite only playing a limited amount he has managed 4 nutmegs, only 2 off the top spot.

"How do you judge a turkey?"

You consider the size and condition of the breast, the legs and it needs to have a rally nice arse too.

Bit of make up wouldn't go amiss

How do you judge a turkey? What is the time scale? What are the metrics?

Re: Have we signed a turkey in Said Benrahma?
No turkey rather he is a diamond that needs polishing to bring out the best in him.

The inference from picking up what the coaching staff have said is that he needs to learn and employ the full responsibilities of a PL midfielder.

I think he will be a top player for us.
